This is a little help with the KilnCalculator entries. Most of the entries are explained in the book from Ellen Prinse.
A-GlasType: If you select a type of glas, this is used to calculate, but also all specs are displayed in the last table of the screen.
B-Diameter: Please specify the widest part of the glass
C-Thickness: Please specify the thickest part of the glas.
D-Heatingtype: With every kilnfire, the glass alters and neads softer treatment. That means needs more time. Select the entry that applies to your situation
E-FuseType: Depending on FuseType, more or less entries in the specifications appear and can be changed. Slump ceramic limits the rate speed. For every NON-ceramic slump-mold, please select "Slump-Other"
F-Bubblesoak: Change from "No-Bubble-soak" to one of the selections. You can chose fo a slow rate of full. Choosing "Full", actually only means a hold at the softening point. You cannot choose "Bubble-Soak" with a slump, since the slump temp. is lower than the softening point. If you use "Slump-ceramic", you get two entries extra, Type of kiln-firing and max rate for the mold. You can change the latter. Using "Full-Fuse" adds a Enlosure-type entry. With "NoDams down to 6mm" and a diameter higher than 6 mm, the glass will float down to 6 mm. This results in the glass being thinner if annealing starts. Therefore, "Anneal-rate" and "Anneal-hold are re-calculated with glass thicker than 6 mm.
G-Enclusuretype: Simply, is the glass within Dams of not. Without dams, glass thicker then 6 mm, will float down to 6 mm. If you started with a diameter from 9 mm, the surface size will increase. This is ready with annealing, so we have to re-calculate the "cool-down rate" and the "Anneal-holds". Ellen Prinse simple re-calculates to 6 mm glass. If you select "Recalculate Dia", the new diameter after heating is calculated based on de difference in thickness. This results show slightly different values then "Ellen Prinse" her calculations, so i assume, she considered it not worth the extral work. However, for you it is now only a matter of selecting the selectionbox.
H-Transformation-hold: You can change this, based on your experiance and the size thickness of the glass.
I-Top-Temperature Hold: With Full-Fusing and slump, the time plays a bigger role in the results. Choose based on experience, the standard valus in this calculator are based on the Oceanside reference-card (Oceanside Firing Schedules)
J-Kiln-Firing-Type: This is only shown using Ceramic molds. Select the type of kiln you use: Top-firing or Side Firing. You can find the refference to those temps in de "Creative Ceramics general instructions"
K-Ceramic-Mold-Max-Range: This will display the Rate (200 or 300) belonging to your kilntype. You can override this value for other ceramic molts. The new value will be dominant, until you press reset.
L-Description: The text specified here, will after calculation, show in the header of the second table. Just like all specifications and calc results show in the header and foote of the second table.
